The government has said it would implement the Supreme Court verdict on the OBC quota and does not want to seek a review of the judgment. Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh sought to mollify allies upset over the exclusion of creamy layer, stating the government as also the United Progressive Alliance favoured reservation benefits for the creamy layer. Singh steered clear of the demands by allies, including the DMK, for a fair and just review of the verdict.

HCL Technologies plans to double its fresher hiring for the upcoming financial year (FY23) as attrition continues to inch up. The company said that it will hire 40,000-45,000 freshers for FY23, up from 20,000-22,000 target for FY22. The share of Information Technology industry in India's GDP was 5.2 per cent or $ 48.1 bn in 2006-07, the government said on Monday, quoting a Nasscom report. Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari said of the $ 48.1 bn, hardware and software products comprised $ 11.5 billion and IT services $ 36.6 bn. Nasscom report also pointed out that around 16.30 lakh people were employed in the IT sector during 2006-07 & 375,000 more jobs were to be generated.
